The French called Thami Glaoui the lord of the High Atlas Mountains<\/strong> or Black panther.<\/p>\n

Our blog will dive into the history of this man\u00a0 who gained\u00a0 fame and became the most powerful man<\/p>\n

Early childhood of Pacha Glaoui<\/h2>\n

The Lord of the High Atlas Mountains was the son of Mohmmed ben Hamou and\u00a0 Zouhra<\/p>\n

Oum El Khayr , a black slave .<\/p>\n

Thami was originally from the South of Morooco\u00a0 , Telouet tribe<\/strong> where he spent most\u00a0 of his childhood .<\/p>\n

After the death of his father (Mohmmed ben Hammou) , Madani took over the father s business while Thami becomes an assistant to his brother.<\/p>\n

The two brothers became so famous when they saved the life of the Sultan Hassan I<\/strong>\u00a0 and his soldiers .<\/p>\n

Actually , the Sultan\u00a0 was on a\u00a0 tax gathering trip from the berber tribes in the South of Morocco<\/a>\u00a0.<\/p>\n

The two brothers rescued the sultan and his soldiers from starvation after being stuck in a blizzard .<\/p>\n

As a result , the Glaoui brothers received two Krupp Cannons from the Sultan Moulay\u00a0 hassan as a<\/p>\n

gesture of gratitude .<\/p>\n

The Turning point<\/h3>\n

The Lord Of\u00a0 The High Atlas Mountains was very ambitious and his\u00a0 appetite for power\u00a0 was so big.<\/p>\n

for this reason , Thami EL Glaoui\u00a0 had done conscious efforts to help Abdelaziz ( the sultan) against Bou Hamara\u00a0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The latter was against the the sultanship of Abdelaziz and then Moulay Abdelhafid became the sulatn , afterwards.<\/p>\n

Therefore , Thami El Glaoui became the Pasha of Marrakech<\/strong> and sided with the French protectorate<\/strong> .<\/p>\n

Since then , El Glaoui s wealth and power\u00a0 grew bigger and built an immense palace : Dar EL pacha in Marrakech<\/a>\u00a0 .<\/p>\n

Lavish life style of\u00a0 Thami EL Glaoui<\/h3>\n

Thami EL Glaoui had accumulated a lot of wealth and\u00a0 led a life of the awfully rich people;<\/p>\n

And his business relied a lot on the trade of saffron<\/a> , salt and minerals .<\/p>\n

As a matter of fact , he surrended himself with famous celebrities such as : Winston Churchill,<\/p>\n

Charlie Chaplin<\/a> , Colette and many more .<\/p>\n

During the 1940 s , Thami El Glaoui was one of the richest men on the planet .<\/p>\n

Besides , he hosted the french in his Palace Dar Al Bacha and organized many lavish parties<\/p>\n

for them .<\/p>\n

Thami was also very generous when\u00a0 he gave expensive gifts to his\u00a0 European guests to impress them .<\/p>\n

Dar Al Bacha<\/h4>\n

The lord of The high Atlas Mountains built a huge palace to impress his guests , Dar Al Bacha.<\/p>\n

The palace displays beautiful tiles , burbling fountains , seating ireas\u00a0 with carpets<\/a> and a lovely hammam<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The flashy man , Thami , has always interest in the western culture<\/strong> and his palace reflects the<\/p>\n

European architecture .<\/p>\n

The plaster work , the tiles , the cyderwood doors and\u00a0 ceilings explain clearly the ostentatious life of<\/p>\n

the Lord of the high Atlas Mountains\u00a0 .<\/p>\n

Pasha Glaoui and Colonization<\/h3>\n

Pacha El Glaoui made sure to keep his power and wealth and he did everything to make the French<\/p>\n

happy .<\/p>\n

Actually , he worked with the French during the colonization to maintain order in Marrakech .<\/p>\n

The Lord of\u00a0 The High Atlas Mountains was not even in good terms with the sultan Mohammed<\/p>\n

the 5 .<\/p>\n

Therefore , he conspired with the French to exsile the sultan Mohammed the 5 to Corsica<\/a> , Madagascar<\/a> and France .<\/p>\n

After 2 years of disorder and fight against the French , the sultan returned to Morocco in 1955 .<\/p>\n

It was so humilating for the pasha El Glaoui to kneel down to the sultan\u00a0 Mohammed the 5 to beg pardon .<\/p>\n

Afterwards , Thami had stomach cancer and died at the same year of independence 1956<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Morocco confiscated Thami\u00a0 s wealth and money to die as a broken- abondoned man .<\/p>\n

From the beginning , Thami El Glaoui was against the polical party Istiqlal<\/strong> and the nationalists<\/strong> who<\/p>\n

dethrone the sulatan mohammed the 5<\/strong>\u00a0 as he did with previous sultan Moulay Abdelaziz.<\/p>\n

Accordingly , the uprising against the French and also their Moroccan supporters was getting higher and higher .<\/p>\n

However , Thami was ready to do anything to fight the sultan and the nationalists , a complete disorder.<\/p>\n
